INTRODUCTION and GENERAL INFORMATION

Children are gifts from God! No matter who you are or where you live, we're all looking for a better life and deserve that opportunity. Some young lives endure more hardships than others. Many of our students are orphans whose parents have died of AIDS. Without this school, these children have little hope.

Circle of Peace School started as a Nursery School in 1994 and developed gradually. The goal of the school is to educate children who are not able to attend public schools because of school tuition costs and other requirements. Children have a God-given right to be educated. It is therefore our duty to help children who are disadvantaged and to create an effective and efficient learning system for individuals, our community and our nation.

INFORMATION FOR DONORS

Classrooms at Circle of Peace School are not permanent structures. The Ugandan Ministry of Education wants all schools to have permanent structures. We urgently need and want to build permanent classrooms.

Furthermore, the playground needs to be improved. The drainage system from our neighbor ‘s"muyindi" passes in front of our school gate, which makes for unhealthy conditions. This has required us to employ more school cleaners, which is expensive.

Our dormitories are very crowded. We would like to have more space to accommodate more pupils.

The Lower School needs reading materials: books and posters. It also needs toys and arts/crafts supplies: crayons, paints, paper, and clay. These materials are expensive in Uganda. We do not require new materials; students and teachers appreciate anything that can be employed for learning.

The Upper School needs reading books, textbooks, and recreation equipment (balls, swings, costumes for dance and drama, and musical instruments – especially drums).

Text books are especially needed. Currently, three to four students share a text book. We can't afford to provide each student their own copy. We also need reading books. We try to emphasize reading to help our students excel in their vocabulary and improve their reading skills.

THE SCHOOL

Teachers
Circle of Peace School teachers inspire their students through their love of teaching. They bring excellent life skills and perspectives into the classroom. Each teacher is gifted in a unique way. They employ incredible talents in their teaching. Given a limited amount of resources to work with, they are very creative.

The Lower School
Currently there are 105 students in the lower grades. This includes students from the Infant class, Middle class, Top class, Primary 1 and Primary 2. The Lower School has five classrooms and five teachers:

Mirembe Passy Bbaale
Nantumbwe Florence
Nakato Amina
Adeke Miriam
Kamulali Rehema
Senkumba Oliver

The Upper School
Currently, there are 92 students in the upper primary grades. This includes classes from Grade 3 to Grade 7. There are five classrooms and six teachers:

Muyinza Morris Bbaale
Helen Muyinza
Amos Busingje
Oliver Nakaweesa
Basiima Wahabu
Hassan Musaawula

Academics and Testing
Despite meager conditions, the school has produced the highest-testing and most well-behaved students in the area.

• In 2004 our students who enrolled in 1995 sat for their Primary Leaving Examination (PLE). Fifteen pupils were tested; nine passed in Division 1 and six passed in Division 2. This was the first time PLE tests were administered at our school.
• In 2005 we tested 8 students; five passed in Division 1 and three in Division 2.
• In 2006 we tested 9 students; eight passed in Division 1 and one passed in Division 3.
• In 2007 we tested 15 students; twelve passed in Division 1 and one passed in Divisions 2, 3 and 4.

We received congratulations from the District Education Officer (DEO), Mr. Muteekanga. Because of the great success on our PLE tests, Kibuye Primary School has requested that we have our PLE at their school.

Boarding House
There is a boy’s dormitory and a girl’s dormitory at the school where 30 students reside. Students in grades five and six may apply to live at the school. Grade seven students are required to live at the school so that they can focus only on their studies without being disturbed at home.

Alumni/ae

A Circle of Peace School graduate of the class of 2006, Amina Bbaale says that she appreciates the primary education that helped make her who she is today. She is proud of Peace School because of her wonderful experience there. “I would not trade my experiences at Circle of Peace School for anything.” She encourages all students to work hard and achieve their dreams. Currently, she is attending Mukono Christian University studying Law. Someday, she hopes to become a lawyer.

My name is Elijah Mugabi class of 2007. I attended Circle of Peace School from kindergarten through the seventh grade. I am currently a senior student in secondary school. I treasure my time at Circle of Peace School, My best teacher was Ms Joanita Senoga whose love, compassion, and kindness were, and still remain, a driving force that nurtured and made me what I am today. I am grateful for her support .She was always there whenever I needed her.

Even during the time l lacked scholastic material, she provided what she could to help me excel in my studies. In addition, she was always a good leader who put together the morning assembly that all the school children used to love . The music she taught us to sing was inspirational, and she also taught us English and made sure every child understood.

My next important teacher was MaryLove, who was a bit strict, but at the same time, she was kind, caring, and loving to every student. She acted as our mother, especially for those students that did not have mothers. She was a wonderful councilor and she would comfort me whenever I was going through hard times.

Every morning I would look forward going to school, because Circle of Peace had become my home away from home. It offered us the best sports activities, in which I fully participated. For example, we had all sorts of games that included athletics such as football, netball and many others. The discipline installed at Peace has made a great impact in my live.

Circle of Peace School also introduced us to leadership. At one time, I stood for the post of “head boy,” which offered me the opportunity to excel. At Circle of Peace, they provided great meals and made sure every student maintained their body health . City of Peace became a place were l, and all my friends, felt loved and cared for. Many thanks go to the fallowing teachers; Mirembe, Rita , Robinah, and Alice for their tireless work. They were not only excellent teachers, they also offered us quality education that laid a strong foundation in our later studies.

Having no daddy, my mother provided the best she could. Despite being a single mother, she always did her best to make sure that l went to school. And, my sister Yutta always volunteered whenever we went to the botanic gardens and also when we went swimming. I really had fun at Circle of Peace School. I count myself fortunate for the opportunity Circle of Peace School offered me. Ever since l left Circle of Peace to join a secondary school, life has been a bit complicated. This makes me recall all the golden days I had at Circle of Peace School. I am currently doing sciences and I hope to become a doctor someday. My dream is to give back to the school and someday make a difference in my community

My name is Mariam Kalekezi. My sister’s name is Shakira Kalekezi. Currently, we live in London with our mom. In the fall I will be a junior in college. My sister Shakira will be a freshman in college. Our education began with Circle of Peace School when we were little children. Our time spent there was so much fun and very rewarding. Not only did we have the opportunity to showcase our talent, our minds were also transformed with the knowledge that we received whilst we were there.

Special thanks to all the teachers who worked tireless to make everything possible for us. Our teachers planned many fun events for us such as swimming, going to theme parks and botanical gardens. However, my sister and I believe that the best planned event was the “Speak Day.” During Speak Day, we performed in front of our parents and friends and also had the chance to win money from the audience. Performing arts was a large part of Circle of Peace School. Dance, drama, music were some of the activities we took part in. Christmas was a special time for us, as during the Christmas season we again had an opportunity to showcase our talent.

Looking back to that wonderful time, our special experiences at Circle of Peace School was a significant benefit to us and allowed us to develop the talents and gifts we now possess. Because we were nurtured and cultivated from a young age, it isn’t difficult to use them today for good purpose. Therefore, we are truly grateful to Joanita Bbaale Senoga, the teacher and founder of Circle Peace School.

We will always remember Circle of Peace as one of the best school we attended.
